The U Series of Poker Hanoi, currently in full swing at the Crown Poker Club since September 1, 2023, has been the hub for some thrilling poker action. Dominating the headlines are Dong Van Tan, who outlasted the large field of the High Roller Superstack, and Khoi Nguyen, who became the first player to capture two coveted trophies. Nguyen Quang Minh and Huang Chang Wei also closed the night with victories. Here are the results.

Dong Van Tan rises above enormous HR Superstack field for maiden title
For a buy in of VND 55M and a massive 300 bb starting stack, players simply couldn’t pass up the High Roller Superstack. 149 ponied up to generate an impressive prize pool of VND 7,226,500,000 (~USD 300,000). Intended to be a one day event, it wrapped up in two with Vietnam’s Dong Van Tan clinching it for his maiden title.
It was a late one at Day 1 with players on the felt for nearly 12 hours before the bubble burst. Down to just 3 bb, Dhaval Mudgal three-bet shoves on initial raiser You Jun Hong who makes the call. Mudgal is ahead with

At Day 2, overnight chip leader Nguyen Trung Quan went on to reach the final table. Nguyen Quang Huy dominated the final two tables, cleaning out numerous players that included Wong Kuok Siew (13th) with

Huy also finished off Nguyen Huu Tuan with

It was nearly an all Vietnamese final table. Calvin Tan was the lone foreigner looking to spoil their glory. Tan railed three players, Dong railed two players, they were about even in chips at the start of heads up with Dong with a 2.5 bb advantage. A heads up deal was quickly reached, even chop with VND 100M aside and the trophy.
The battle was tight, both players tugging at the chip lead until the hand below – Dong called Tan’s bet – created a wide gap from which Tan could not recover. Dong went on to ship it for a career high payout of VND 1,705,250,000 (~USD 70,800).

Second win for Khoi Nguyen at the Mixed NLH/PLO
The last event to complete on Day 5 was the Mixed NLH / PLO and despite the small field of 31 entries, players were having a grand time at the crazy runouts. In the end, it was Khoi Nguyen coming from behind to become the first player to win two events at the series.

Picking up the action from ITM of four places, it was a shove fest. Nguyen Quang Minh doubled up through Le Dinh Hai with

. Chip leader Tan Ong Kwan proceeded to clean out Le then Luong Trac Tu and Nguyen both doubled up through Tan. This sent Tan’s stack plunging to eventually fall in 3rd place. The final two quickly reached a deal and the trophy was awarded to Nguyen.

One of the most enjoyable will be the Tag Team Event. Strategy is the key. The winning team will receive two trophies, one for each player. Buy in is VND 6,600,000 per player / VND 13,200,000 per team. Teammates must register together. Event takes place on September 8, 2023.
The first 8 levels is individual play with teams battling at separate tables. As soon as Level 9 kicks in, teammates combine their stacks and play Tag Team poker from then on. Teammates can switch off anytime as long as they are not in an active hand.
