19:00: Valeriy Fokin  turns over “Doyle Brunson” and wins the 1K Re-Entry
Blinds: 15K-25K ante 25K

It was a Russian battle at the 1K Re-Entry with heads up between Valeriy Fokin and Dmitrii Gnusaev. Both players were hunting down their first trophy of the festival having both been denied in 2nd place at a previous event.

After a deal was struck, pots remained small until a shocking final hand was tabled. On a raised pot preflop, both checked the flop 2c9c4d. On the turn Qc, Gnusaev check-raised, Fokin called. The river 9d, Gnusaev pushed, Fokin took a few seconds to decide then called for his tournament life. Gnusaev was caught bluffing with Js10h missed draw, Fokin turned over a shocking 10d2h for bottom pair! He said, “it’s Doyle Brunson!”

That was it, Fokin shipped it for his first WPT win and pocketed USD 11,148 payout deal.

17:15: Bubble bursts!
Blinds: 6K-12K ante 12K

Another unfortunate turnout for Chao Ting Cheng who fell on the bubble for the second time in this festival. Last night, he bubbled the WPT Cambodia HR 5K, and just moments ago, Cheng was eliminated at the 1K Re-Entry.

Before the fall, Cheng plummeted to 3 bb after calling down Yuan Yu on every street. The board completed 7h7cJs3c2h. Yu had AhAc. Cheng mucked.

Down to 3 bb, Cheng shoved twice, both ending in split pots. However on the third shove, Cheng faced Yu again, and this time, Yu prevailed with Js3s two pair over Kd4c pair on a board Jh4h3d5dAs.

Micro Championship – Final Day

Blinds: 30K-60K ante 60K

Fast action at the two-day Micro Championship with 16 players out of 124 entries returning on the final day and reaching the final table in under one hour. It was just as fast at the final table with heads up quickly established.

Singapore’s Jacson Feng, who led from the start of the final table, was up against Philippine rising player  Justin Geronimo. Geronimo was seeking his second festival win having triumphed the Deepstack Freezeout days prior. However it was not to be for Geronimo. He four-bet shoved Ah10h, Feng snap-called with AcKc, the board ran a suspenseful Qh5d9h with the turn 7s and river 5c. Fang snatched his career first live title and trophy.

Australians entered the final table dominating in numbers with five players in the round however they still couldn’t lock up the win. Hong Kong’s Sparrow Park Yu Cheung spoiled their plans, knocking out one Aussie after another to bag the win and a payout deal of USD 135,755.

Sparrow Cheung

Down to four handed, Cheung four-bet shoved that led to massive double up with AcAs dominating Australia’s Danny Huynh’s JsJh. Cheung went on to eliminate Dylan Foster (4th), Huynh (3rd) to face Australia’s Yoon Kang at a heads up.

Kicking off very lopsided, Cheung 65 bb dominating Kang’s 2.5 bb, the Aussie doubled up and more a few times to impressively near par. An ICM deal was then reached with USD 9,995 on the side for the eventual winner. Cheung grinded down Kang to lift his first ever WPT title and trophy.

Level 32: 200,000-400,000 ante 40,000

Konstantin Held has done it! Kicking off heads up, it was heavy bets being tabled back and forth with Held dominating and scooping. This quickly switched the counts. Level 30: 100,000-200,000 ante 200,000

Motoyoshi Okamura

WSOP bracelet winner Motoyoshi Okamura will not be adding a WPT title to his portfolio, pushing with Ac6s that fell flat to Joshua McCully‘s QsQd. In Day 3, Okamura came back from just 6 bb at 10-handed to an impressive 5th place finish for USD 157,858.

18:50: Amit Kaushik eliminated in 5th place – USD 118,906
Level 30: 100,000-200,000 ante 200,000

Amt Kaushik

Amit Kaushik extended his incredible 2023 run to the new year, locking up his first ever six figures after finishing in 5th place. Kaushik went tit for tat against Joshua McCully but on their third bout, Kaushik was eliminated. McCully’s KdQs paired the Queen on the turn to dust Ah7s.

Shortly after, Kaushik opens 6 bigs then goes to the flop AsJh6s with caller McCully. Kaushik shoves his last 1.5 bb and McCully calls knowing he is behind with 9s9d. Kaushik has AhJc. The turn Ad is a full house for Kaushik to recover some of his lost chips.

Kyle Bao Diep

Kyle Bao Diep just scored the biggest payout of his career amounting to USD 90,532 for 6th place but at the moment, he doesn’t feel good about it. He tells SMP, “maybe I’ll feel better about it tomorrow.” Expectedly so as Diep’s AsKs was defeated by chip leader Konstantin Held’s Ah7h with a Seven quickly showing up.

16:50: Amit Kaushik saved by the river
Level 29: 75,000-150,000 ante 150,000

Down to 11 bb, Amit Kaushik shoved holding Ad9d and survived once again with a bleak board finding a Nine on the river against Motoyoshi Okamura’s Ac10s. Kaushik back up to 24 bb, Okamura dipped to 35 bb.

16:10: Amit Kaushik slipping and surviving
Level 28: 75,000-125,000 ante 125,000

Amit Kaushik entered the day ranked a strong third in chips and fueled in more chips after railing two short stacks Anthony Cierco (9th) and Kou Vang (8th). However, since then, it has been downhill with the big stacks slowly shaving portions. Dropping to as low as 7 bb, Kaushik got it all in with Ah6h and survived against Kyle Bao Diep’s Kd9d. Both players are about even with Kaushik at 16 bb and Diep at 15 bb.
